An effective communicator is always evolving in tune with the early adopters of the world. It’s our job to bring the world along with us in venues that appeal to the audience of the day. This work sample highlights one of those venues –microlearning video.
This video tutorial for 7Taps online software demonstrates to-the-point, just-in-time learning content with minimal fanfare and maximal impact. The task for this project was to use Camtasia software to complete a procedural video with visual enhancements and editing voiceover that was no more than 120 seconds long. Additionally, the project included the creation, review, and approval of a scripted storyboard prior to creation of the final product.
The features that make this video an example of effective technical communication are its short length, goal-oriented script, effective use of visual and audible enhancements, and clearly communicated completion criteria.
This artifact is an excerpt of the storyboard used to plan the final video product. This storyboard prescripted the interactions, visuals, and voiceover that went into the final product. When used effectively, storyboards can drastically cut down on recording and production times for video content.
